Please tell us a bit about yourself and Bearfoot Films 3D Animation Studio
I am a 36 year old freelance 3D artist originally from the UK and now living and working in Geneva Switzerland.
I have worked in IT and Advertising since leaving university and now work freelance on a variety of jobs for clients doing concept design, modeling, rendering, texture work or whatever the client demands really.
How did you get started at 3D?
Whilst studying Computer Science at Uni one of my house mates showed me LightWave 3D… possibly version
4 / 5. I was pretty astounded at what I saw and the more and more I became interested in 3D the more and more
I used Lightwave3D. |

Most of your work has been created with LightWave3D. Why choosing LightWave3D over any other application?
I think simply because overtime I have got to know the programme quite well, so I am able to use it and get what I need from it in a quick time scale. I don’t find myself having to use the dynamics or character animation tools so I don’t. Its simple interface and easy to use commands are perfect for me to carry what I need, quickly.
Which features of LightWave3D do you like the most?
I like the way that modeler is separate. I spend a lot of time in modeler so I don’t want to get bogged down with extra clutter and controls and commands I don’t need. The Lighting and render engines are very powerful without being over complicated, making it easy to get good results relatively quickly. |

What other software do you use? What for precisely?
I use Photoshop extensively for post production and painting. Also Zbrush for sculpting should the need arise.
What hardware do you use?
When I discovered LightWave3D®, it was running on an old Amiga! My hardware is a PC desktop (Quad Core 3ghz, 8 gig Ram, Windows 7, 64 bit) and a Mac laptop which I can take on the road. |
What are your sources of inspiration?
Generally I get inspired by many different things. Nature, music, films and art. I try to develop my style so it is recognizable. I try to incorporate different elements into my design that could be futuristic and yet also based around the objects of the real world we live in. |
